The Women`s Tennis Association (WTA) has added a new tournament in Melbourne for tennis players undergoing a 14-day quarantine and no opportunity to train before the Australian Open, which begins on February 8. The new tournament will take place between February 3 and 7 and will include those athletes who failed to train.
A total of 72 players remain quarantined after positive charter cases for COVID-19 in three charter flights to the Australian Open. Two ATP men`s tournaments via soccer betting odds will be moved 24 hours back and start on February 1, and the ATP Cup will start a day later.
Among the quarantined tennis players are former Australian Open champions Victoria Azarenka and Angelique Kerber, as well as 2019 US Open winner Bianca Andrescu.
`This is a particularly challenging time for quarantined athletes and we, along with the WTA and ATP, are working hard to help them, ` said Australian Open director Craig Tilly.
